The now standard post pay-day trip to the record shop was a success today, and I had a chat with the guy behind the counter to ask them to try to get hold of a couple of things for me when it's Record Store Day.

I saw Evan Dando in Southampton in 2022 and he was utterly dreadful. Off his face on something or another and he stamped on my 90s recollections of how good The Lemonheads were at their peak. Fortunately recordings from their heyday are unaffected by booze and drugs, so this Limited Edition of Car Button Cloth is great and has a decent selection of acoustic tracks, remixes and covers on the second LP.PXL_20250222_150735909.jpgPXL_20250222_142546746.jpg

I had a bit of a shopping spree, and picked this up along with four other LPs 🤷‍♂️

There are a couple of tracks I am not a huge fan of, but generally this is a great album and (for me) one of their best.

Right now I'm spinning "Beethoven The Symphonies Riccardo Chailly Gewandhausorchester" Decca, 2011.
Alright friends, I know it's a CDP, but hey it still spins eh? In addition I'm afraid I don't own a LP spinner.
Anyhow, more to the point, I picked up the limited edition boxed set for £21 last week. Apparently this is the second oldest Orchestra in Germany and I believe all the players are amateur but most certainly not low class artists. The hall in which this Orchestra does it's recording has fabulous acoustics and this was recorded to proper studio quality. I've been looking for this particular boxed set for a while and often it's a whole lot more than what I paid.
I own eight sets of the Beethoven Symphonies and today I get the chance to go through this one. It's very highly rated by reviewers and I can see why. I think this could be my favourite set now, even over the famous Karajan, 1963, Berlin Philharmonic version.View attachment 8569
Very nice, however there is a reason this thread is in the Turntables and LPs subforum...... 😎

This is possibly a good enough option?

That's obviously encouraged me to listen to another Dylan album. I'm new to vinyl but honestly, the sound is so lovely - full of character.

My father-in-law yesterday said that he's just had his Rega deck repaired for free by Rega (a capacitor needed to be replaced). That's the sort of service anecdote that makes my eye get drawn even more to the new Planar 3 RS.....

His turntable is likely to be pretty old, I'll try to find it and take a photo when I'm there next.1000003571.jpg

The new 3RS certainly looks good for the money.
