speakers for djing in small room?

Hi

If I understand your post correctly the speakers are meant only as monitors for yourself while practising?

In that case I would recommend Genelec 8020 or perhaps 8030. I have the 8020 myself to my computer and I like them a lot. I like most of Genelec's stuff. These are active studio monitors so you won't need any amp. They are fast and rather punchy with enough details. I don't find them harsh or edgy. Of course they won't blow your pants off, for that you would need some of their much bigger monitors or one of their subs.

Regards

hey... yea looks like im geting those atc 10a's...its from the link to the hifi site you posted...im really happy to get them...gona cost me around a grand...what do you think?...haha i missed out on the 1030's which was a pitty...and to wakestar...the speakers are just for djing in a small room which is treated, playing trance and i was wondering what was the best set up...i tryed my best to fully explain myself and ask simply...bit of a untouched subject this one which i would love to see a proper review on...which what hi-fi are'nt really up to the test...like...what speaker is great for loud music at close range in a small room...forget about the djing part...i am disapointed with what hi-fi...but there was a few people who were great... 😀

If you can get them for a grand then that sounds good if they are in good condition etc.

They are top quality speakers with top quality amps in them so if you look at it that way they are a bargain.

hey only cn ur message now as you didnt reply to me directly...any hows i got let down with two pairs of them atc's i was set to buy...i have still been looking for them...im not sure as what size i need if im going to go for the focal cms 50's or the yamaha hd50's...what do you think about the quad11L active's for around 550e? seen them in a dj site saying there the business...any how's thanks for any advice in advance 🙂

Any of the speakers you mention will work very well providing they are not rear ported.

The Quad's are rear ported so wont work too well close to rear wall. You will end up with muddy, overblown bass that will sound slow instead of tight and fast like you want for dance music.

B&W are always pretty good for house/dance/trance etc ie bass better than the rest of the capability, tight and true.

hey, me again...was just about to fall for the b&w 685 then i realised there not powered 🙁...to matt, my main concern is not wanting a studio monitor as its too flat and fatiguing on my ears and generally not plesant, but that could all be untrue...is it?...secondly is what size would be good enough bass at very close proximity without needing a sub...and lastly if you could recomend an active speaker which is currently in production which is great for mixing dance music in a tiny room you would save me soo much heart ache...also if i do just go for the focal cms which 1? the 6.5inch or the 5 inch? ..thanks in advance 🙂

p.s. i know its not really your feild but what do you think of the new pioneer djm 2000? (its on youtube) food for thought

I wouldn't worry about monitors sounding too flat. They will sound true to the recording.

You have tone controls on your mixer to tweak the sound to suit your tastes.

Id go for the 6.5inch cone or bigger if i were you for better bass but wouldn't worry about a sub unless you play drum and bass or the like.

Some Focal CMS65's if your looking at spending around 1k.

Otherwise KRK, M audio or Adam make monitors for less money. Anything with a front port or sealed box is ok.

hi again, yea i missed them...was checking every day for them but i fell out of the habit...one thing i was asking on my last post is what size woofer would i want in the focal range...you answered the 8 inch...i was wondering why when the atc scm is only 5 inch...also would there be much difference in the sound? thanks again im close to ordering the focals by the way 🙂

How's thingsYeah i suggested going for the 6.5 inch as opposed to the 5 inch so you would get a bit more bass and volume potential. The ATC's being a 5inch driver wouldn't matter i dont think as the ATC drive units are massivly engineered compared to most/all of the competition so will outperform the majority of 6.5inch drive units. The ATC's drive units have 300watts power handling. And the 10-2's are powered by a 200watt amp for the bass and 50watt for the tweeter. Not many other small monitors come close to this power.Focal, like ATC, make their own drive units so i would be confident that their drive units in the powered monitors are well matched with their amplifiers so should also bring great results.

There is another pair of 10-2's on ebay at the moment.

haha lovely...going to grab them now 🙂...im offically broke 🙁 costing me around 1400e 🙁 but il take your word and il keep you informed 🙂

You can always stuff some socks in the ports. Tightens things up no end.

Congratulations, id say you can't wait to hear them.

Any well made xlr cables will work fine with the active ATC's according to ATC themselves and their suppliers. No need to spend money on fancy ones.
Any DJ/music/guitar type shop should sell them like waltons in town or that Dj shop on Capel street.

Do you need to get xlr to rca converters for the mixer end? You might even get leads with xlr's on one end and rca's on the other if your lucky.

Get some pictures up if you can and let us know how you get on
