Bit of a rubbish one considering it hasn't been out that long but what speakers tend to go well with Arcams? Got mine a month ago and whilst was little unsure of it at first due to the lack of tone controls, I'm now loving the overall more tighter, refined and pacier delivery i get from it and that is through my old kef iq1s. Never the less, they are quite old sub 200 pound speakers so I'm thinking of getting some nice 500 pound or so speakers to go with it.

Requirements are that they have to easy to place and perform well in small rooms AND have to look good because I'm shallow like that 🙂 . I listen to indie, electroni and a bit of metal and rock.

B&W CM1s take my fancy but they have been around a while.

Any suggestions?

Ta

I have the Dynaudio Excite x12 in Piano Black which both look and sound good are good in a small room. They are not particularly difficult to drive and in addition, the early reports suggest that the A19 will drive speakers with ease.

You don`t mention what other equipment you have, cd player ?

At £500 ish I would demo Tannoy, Monitor Audio, newer Kef.

The speaker review section can help you on your way.

Cheers for the suggestions so far, yeah i use an rdac and a project debut carbon. Believe me , i do check the review sections out but like to guage the opinion of real world users 🙂

Having owned Arcam amps for about 14 years, I've tried a whole number of different speakers. Generally Monitor Audio, Focal, PMC, Dali and Wharfedale are the speakers I'd short-list. I wouldn't discount Kefs, but that combo didn't 'do it' for me.

B&W, unless they're the old 600 series, need a gutsy amp. I've not heard the new A19, but if it mirrors past models I'd avoid B&W and Dynudio. Dyns are fabulous speakers but the Arcams aren't ballsy enough, unless you connect a power amp, to make the most of their qualities.

Hope that's helped...

KEF R100's

B&W 685's or CM1's

Dynaudio DM2/6's

Monitor Audio RX1's or RX2's

All the above would work well with the A19; when I heard it the KEF R100's were by far the best but the MA RX1's and B&W CM1's did very well too

Get some demos booked 🙂

Something fairly easy to drive like the Rega RS1s, they can go near walls and are not fussy about positioning about £440. Why not try a few more amps out like the Marantz KI, you may want a bit more power to drive some of the low sensitive ones.

Already own the arcam a19 so wont be getting a new amp. Fulfilled my requirement for a headphone amp and i already own a rdac. A lot has been said about arcams lacking in power and on paper i dont see any real difference between the a18 and a19 in that respect. Both 50 watts per channel. Hoping other changes under the hood make it a bit more better in respect to powering speakers though I doubt i would notice to be honest.

Good shout on the Kef r100 , hadnt come across them before and they look stunning! Laking a tweeter though. Does that really matter?

i demo'd a number of speakers with my Arcams before settling on the Neat Motive 3's. Definately worth consideration or a demo.

You will find the tweeter in the middle of the bass/mid driver. (Concentric.)

Thanks. Will definately be giving these an audition. Write ups sound promising as well.

Focal, KEF, or Dali if you stick to your budget. If you can find a second hand pair, or stretch the budget, the best I ever heard from my A18 when I had it was through a pair of PMC DB1i in an audition. I couldn't afford the speakers in the end but it was a wonderful combination.

I had a recent demo of the a19 with the kef r300 and it sounded jaw droppingly amazing very clear tight and just really nice to listen to. I would be looking at the r100, b&w 685s, or monitor audio rx1
