Speaker upgrade choices - too many options!

Hello all

I've been lurking here for a few weeks and decided to leap straight in with a question.

I'm looking to upgrade the speakers in my system. The main use is music and the system is Cyrus CD6 and a Cyrus 7 amp (I also have a Denon AVR2802 for surround sound but the Cyrus system takes care of the front channel so the speakers need to match the Cyrus gear)

I bought a pair of Tannoy Mercury speakers (not the F1s) cheap off ebay a few years ago which are OK but I feel I'm missing out. I've been looking at the Wharfedale Diamond 10.1s or 9.1s. They need to be very close to the wall so I'm not sure which would be best. I am on a fairly limited budget but I'm open to ideas - so long as those ideas don't include "buy XYZ but move them 2 feet from the walls" since that would upset she who must be obeyed!! Any advice would be gratefully received!

Thanks in advance everyone!

John

Hi John

The TannoyF1's are great little speakers for their budget, but your equipment does deserve better, as you've already found out. This would involve a larger budget though, normally in the £400-700 price point.

For speakers that work well close to a wall, look for front firing reflex ports (not rear firing), or perferably even a sealed cabinet, although these are harder to find.

Thanks for the advice - I suspect that £400 would be the very top of my budget though!

I'm thinking that Kef IQ10s might do it. The Tannoys are the Mercury MX1s from a few years ago so they'd lose out to the F1s I suspect and hence my need to upgrade! Any suggestions of what would work with Cyrus electronics for up to £400?
