So ive finally sorted out my hifi.. now my speakers are sat on the floor, and whilst people say this doesnt damage them ive read that stands improve sound and im also getting sick of sitting on the floor to get the best sound to my ear.

Anyway you guys have been really helpful and i was wondering if anyone had shopped at audio affair before or could reccomend another shop to buy speaker stands from.

What stands would you reccomend to go with B&W 685's there is no real limit on my budget (obviously stands shouldnt be more expensive than the rest of my kit... 😛) anyway the obvious choice is super dreadnoughts...... thoughts people?

thanks for all replies

Try to listen to your 685's on some Partington Super Dreadnoughts, Atacama Aurora 6's or B&W FCM700's (not too sure bout the exact name though).
Good Luck!

Thanks for the reply, ive decided to go for the super dreds but have read rather poor feedback on this forum concerning audioaffair who i was going to order my stands from, does anyone know the best place to buy these from on the web?

The Kudos S50 are also very good, those Quadraspire QS ones are also very good too, but ugly and a bit unstable, but they are quite effective sonically.

Have you had a look at Partington's online store? That should be the best place to buy 'em..

i upgraded very recently from Soundsyle Z2 to Partington Super Dreadnaughts and i must say they are so worth the extra outlay. It really made my system come together.

if its any help i got mine from HiFix for £146. no problems and good communication when it was time for courier etc

Also i filled 3/4 with sand in the central column which seems to help - not sure i would add more than that though

nonono.... i got my brother to order my stands for me whilst i was at work and he got them at audio affair after i asked him to look for the best price =[ damn, anyone know how to stop an order?

well if it just arrives ok, then what's the problem?

I've never heard of speaker stands being returned under warranty...

On a separate note, does filling up a speaker stands really make a difference in the sound even if there's a heavy base plate attached to the stands?

I think that Audio Affair did have problems for awhile. It seems to be they got too big to quick. However they seem to have sorted themselves out and I have placed a few orders recently and can only praise their service and pricing.

I also upgraded from Soundstyle Z2 to Partington Super Dreadnoughts (from Audio Affair) and they have made a marked improvement to my Morduant Short Mezzo 2's

that is good to hear.... i did get a delivery email this morning and therefore im already gaining confidence that my order is being taken care of very well. does anyone else have reccomendations concerning stands, if i fill them with sand and get floor spikes? any other ideas or alternative products that havent been suggested?

Definitely worth filling the stands to increase their stability.Use a heavy duty poly bag so it can be removed if necessary.Atacama make Atabites for this purpose, metal bits that come in a tub. They work really well and eliminate any problems with moisture.

I second caddyhound...........fill 'em to the top. Huge difference. Also less likely to tip if you walk past them whilst tipping.

Manchesto - I'm interested in your view on the B&W 685's with the 326 - do you find it bassy or 'laid back' ?
