bought denon 37 dab yesterday, also picked up a pair of eltax moniter 111 speakers, i really have two questions (1) do you recomend speaker stands with these speakers, as they have bottom ported bass . (2) do you think tannoy f1 custom would be better option, thanks.

yea the eltax speakers have a bottom port so i thought this would make it odd to put on stands.

Like any speaker, they will benefit from being on stands. The downwards-firing ports will have no bearing on this. Make sure you get stands with big enough top plates. Soundstyle Z2s are just big enough for the Eltaxs(and I do mean just). The benefit of the downwards port is that the speakers are fairly unfussy about placement, e.g. you can put them fairly close to a back wall.

As to whether the Tannoys would be better, that's a matter of personal taste. The Eltaxs are excellent for the money, and very enjoyable speakers.

yea i bought a pair two years ago for my daughters room , i fixed them in the corners of the room resting the bottom of the speaker on the picture rail and holding the tops in place by screw and cable clip, i know this sounds odd but at the time i did not know that most speakers are front or back ported, they sound ok, but are a bit basey.

Well, they're designed to sound at their best with a hard flat surface an inch or so beneath the port, so they will definitely sound better on stands rather than hung on the wall.

So if i put them on stands i will need to leave the metal spikes on. Thanks for your help.
