Hi folks,

currently using qed qudos cables and i'm seriously considering bi-amping,so looking at buying another 10m.

I would describe the sound i hear from the speakers as bright...would it be recomended to upgrade the cables,if so can you recomend?

cheers

I had the same issue as you when I had my QED Silver Anniversary. I binned them in favour of Atlas Hyper 2.0 (twin runs, as I bi-amp), and it solved the problem nicely. Still detailed but a whole lot more natural sounding the the QEDs.

Given the Qudos is all copper, I'm not sure that it is the problem......if you want to try something different, Linn K20 from ebay is good.

What system / cables were being used when you demoed the R100s?

Is the sound bright for AV and 2 channel and is it on everything or only on certain things?

What are your room acoustics like?

(Sorry, more questions than answers).

Ok so i didn't demo the speakers.....

But,i didn't need to...iv'e read some fantastic reviews from retailers and customers, plus they were recomended to upgrade my previous as they compliment the excisting kef sat/sub i have...

I love them, almost daily the sound kind of opens(abt3 weeks old),they are fantastic for sountrack and for music are, imho faultless...it's just that i am looking at buying more cable to bi-amp and thought it best to ask for advice before wasting money:)

I describe them as bright(i think that is the correct term)and i'm in no way disatisfied with the sound;the room is carpeted, full of bulky oak furniture+2 leather sofa's,and picture/mirror on wall so accoustics should be ok.

If there isn't an ingrained brightness problem, look to Atlas Hyper (as suggested) or TQ Blue. The Linn is also a good value option.

Van Den Hul is also known for a smoother presentation.

Thanks for the suggestion guys,so just to clarify then: there is no merit in using the qudos for these speakers?:)

Edit:looking at the prices :O (i need 4x5m to bi-amp&i need white!) i may just get some more qed.....and look at upgrading when the system is old and boring :shifty:

Your speakers seem to be a long way from your amp.

If you're not in a hurry, check out eBay. I paid £50 for each 3 metre pair of my Hypers, factory terminated with Atlas Z-plugs.

The avr is in a cabinet/shelf in the opposite corner of the room,i understand what you are saying Chris, and i realy appreciate yours and cno's advice, but for now i cant justify that kind of spend(should have checked prices before posting),however as you say, there are always deals on flea bay so will keep my eyes open and build quantity over time(unless i can shift a couple of spare 3001's.. )

Would it work adding the hyper to the R100's,leaving the center&surrounds as is?

Apart from blue-ray 5.1,i mainly listen to 2 channel music anyway, although love multichannel sacd.

Cheers

Funnily anough a local dealer reccomended the chord(didn't stock atlas hyper)

Then the dealer who sold me the speakers said not to bother, stick with what i have as the differance i would hear would not be great, compared to the cost....unless i want to go into the £30 a m racket..(sory bracket):)

Yeah it can be a racket! You are the only one to decide what works for you mate.

I see you have the oppo 105. What do you think of it then?

Thanks for the advice guys,i gonna be patient and organise a demo, want to hear for myself before shelling out more$.

I love the 105...it streams my flac from laptop perfectly, plays via analouges faultlesly, for music and blu-ray.

The differance i notice is in the way it has smoothed out the sub...no more booming through the house...it's on,the bass is deep, but it's not ''noticable''

For blu-ray sountrack it is again fantastic....pq looks sharper as do colours(and deeper),dvd upscaling is outstanding, have a 90's pink floyd dvd that was as grainy as hell before, not now...the 105 even has a zoom mode to sort out the picture size...even in full size it upscales great. For a decent dvd copy it upscales to 1080p....looks equally as good as skyhd.

Ideally, they should be the same, but it would get you by until you managed to get the same for the centre (rears should be OK as is).
