Have just noticed when sp1 button is pressed in i have sound from both speakers (high) and when just sp2 sound from just 1 speaker (low) assuming I have birewired incorrectly. Problem being wires are buried in wall now.

Best way to test is to get yourself a low voltage lamp and lamp-holder, like a bicycle lamp bulb or even a car one, and wire it up to a couple of crocodile clips. You can get the bits and bobs for not much dosh at places like Maplin or RS.

Connect it to the cable pair you want to test at the speaker end, having first detached them from the speaker. Detach the wires you think correspond at the amp end, and touch them onto the terminals of one of those little brick-shaped 3V batteries. They used to be called PP3s, now they're MN something or other.

Lamp glows, you're connected correctly; lamp doesn't, try all the other speaker connections until the lamp does glow. Label the cables at each end with a bit of masking tape wrapped round the wire and the two ends stuck together to make a tab.

Repeat for all connections, job done.

What Joel said.

Have all 4 speaker wires (per speaker), connected to the SP1 connections and leave the SP2 connections unused. Terminations for Bi-wire cable are traditionally 2-into-4, 4 for the speaker end (jumper bars removed of course), and 2 for the amp end.

JoelSim:Sp1 and Sp2 are to run 2 sets of speakers from an Arcam, rather than 2 speakers.

But since they are simply switched terminals from the same amplifier outputs, there's no reason whatsoever why the OP shouldn't use both sets to connect his speakers in the way he has.

I was told more switching means more degredation of the signal. Is this not the case?

Well, the signal is still going through the switching, whether he connects two-into-four or four-into-four on each channel.

But it could cause a more complicated set-up if you're not careful
