my old Hitachi PD3200 plasma finally gave up the ghost, as in it won't switch on, I've no idea whether it's picture quality is up to 2017 standards, but it did have much better sound than my 2016 Samsung slimline LCD TV as it has for a TV above average sized and mounted speakers, which is a long winded way of saying I'd like a good sounding tv first (a soundbar is not an option) I also need at least one Scart for ancient SKY box, budget between £300-500

Thanks

Maybe you have / can't / don't want to, but.....you never know, could be something obvious / minimal.

I'd guess that, with the latest, you'll get a better picture - almost certainly not better sound though.

Amazing what you can find for 'no' money now. Not long ago got WHF BB Panasonic 50" for £399 with 5 year g/tee. Model CS520, not 4k but great HD and none too terrible sound. (Let's just say I've heard much worse)

It's a two box job the "tuner box" wont light up at all but I see no fuses, and no leaky caps, struggling to find an old school "TV repair shop" most seem to want £95 to have a look!

Sounds like the 95 quid would be better put toward a new set then. At least you had a look.

There aren't that many decent-sounding TVs around, but there are more than TVs with a Scart socket. It might be worth seeing about a Sky box upgrade, because if you forego a Scart socket there are a few very acceptable TVs at your budget.

This, for instance: https://www.whathifi.com/panasonic/tx-40dx700b/review

It was £550 when we tested it, but can be had now for more like £500. It's a 40in 4K set (another resaon to see about a more up-to-date set-top box) with sound that "isn't too bad at all". And in most areas the picture will be an improvement on your sadly deceased Hitachi.
