Hi,

If i dont keep my tv on constant standby the tv guide+ doesn't update and so even after 1 night switched off at the set there is a warning on the guide that tv listings haven't been updated, 2 days and there is no information available for tv listings - requiring a manual update which can take half an hour or so.

Considering energy efficiency issues, is this problem effecting other owners - if so surely this is a bad design flaw, my Pana seems to be able to update its listings without my knowledge or interference.

Also, am i write in saying that the tv will only accept a Sony camera plugged into the USB port to enable download/transfer of pictures? It doesnt recognise my 5 year old Canon, nor my iPod connected through the USB?

Hi Tubby, the W4500 needs to kept in standby for the Guide+ to update correctly.

Regarding the USB port, it will accept only Sony Cameras but any make USB drives. If you want to use other manufacturers audio/video players then you need to use the DM Port on the rear of thr TV. This is not a standard interface and requires a proprietary lead from Sony.

Thanks hdmad.

I think that is a disgrace in today's movement against power consumption.

What does Sony have to say about this? I am surprised no-one at WHF has pursued this with them or warned users of this technical flaw.

I am not sure of the energy costs per year of keeping it on standby or what tv sets it applies to (presumably it is not just the 4500 series which is effected) but multiplied by the number of sets across the globe, it must be immense.

This TV uses 0.2w in standby, which on its own is hardly polar ice cap melting territory. However on a global scale then it might contribute somewhat. I'm sure Sony themselves waste megawatts of power every day, so for now I'll be leaving mine in standby. I think this works out @ £1.70 per month in standby time alone, based on 5 hrs per day viewing time.
