does anyone know if i can output via component from an hdmi input , i am thinking of buying a sony strdg820 but i can only output component to my projector and i want to play blurays on a ps3 , thanks

Not without an HDMI-to-component converter box, no.

also i forgot to mention that i only want to output 1080i , so ps3 hdmi in component out to projector , does this make a difference , as you can probably tell im pretty new to this so your help is appreciated , thanks

Yes, the 820 can output as component video signals input via the component video sockets, but it can't downconvert an HDMI video input to output it via the component video monitor sockets.

To do what you want you'd need to add something like this downstream of the HDMI output from the Sony receiver.

thanks for your help , ive only just got the ps3 and i didnt realise i could get 1080i straight from machine via a component lead , so it seems straight forward now .
