I'm upgrading my all in one home cinema system and I'm looking at choosing between the Sony STR-DG820 or the Yamaha DSP-AX763 AV amp, i'm looking at the best combination to work with a Sony BDP-S350 blu-ray player and SKY HD. A little concerned regarding the firmware issue of the Sony amp that I have read about working with SKY HD. Also a recomendation for a suitbale speaker package to go with it. In total I have around £500 to £600 to spend. Advice greatly received !!

Most folks recommend the Jamo's http://whathifi.com/Review/Jamo-A102HCS5/ now available for £179.99 from amazon..

but if you have a bit more cash then it has to be the Kef's http://whathifi.com/Review/KEF-KHT20053/

you can get the Kef's in black for £559 from here > http://www.vickers-hifi.co.uk/retail/kef.html the cheapest on the net that I found..

I'm getting the Jamo's myself but if i had the money it would be those gorgeous kefs.

As for amps the Yamaha is what everyone seems to recommend...i've asked why not the Denon 1909 which is available for £299, same price as the yamaha, but has more HDMI inputs, does video upscaling and has radio but nobody seems to be interested !!

I think most people seem to pointing to the Yamaha, the Jamo's look pretty good value. i notice they are rated at 6 ohms but the Yamaha has an output from 8 ohms, not my area of expertise but is this an issue?

No, not really an issue, but in any case the Yammy can be set to 6 ohms
