Hey there,

I'd be interested to here what you guys think between these 3 amps:Sony STR-DA5300ES vs Denon AVR-3808 vs Onkyo 805/875. I've seen your awards issue where you rate the onkyo 875 very highly. I want to use this potential new amp for music and movies. They all seem like great surround amps but would like to know which amp would have the musical edge. It would be paired with a Marantz CD63 MkII KI, Tannoy 638+. This new amp would replace my current rotel RB/RC 971 pre/power

Thanks

hey there,
I am also interested in this question and I hope we ' ll get an answer from a professional.
Personally I reckon that the best is the Onkyo 875 from the models you have mentioned.
But I have not made a comparison yet as I am interested in the Onkyo 905 and the Marantz SR 8002.

I also have the same question. I'm also having a hard time choosing between the Sony and Denon. I like the Onkyo but I like the fact that the Sony and Denon have GUI. Which one would you choose based on listening to music? I currently have a B&W MT-30 speaker system with a Sony STR-DA80ES receiver and Apple TV. I will also be upgrading my DVD player from a Sony DVP-NS725P to a Denon DVD-1940. Thanks.

i've jsut read on avforums that the OSD on the Onkyo 805 cannot be viewed in 1080p. My tv is 1080p (samsung le40m87) Does this mean to have to change the settings on you amp everytime you want to see the osd?

I've just read another post an I guess I forgot about the Yamaha range of amps 2800 and 3800. 4 amps to choose and I bet all of them have their own problems!!

after all I have read and heard about the four mentioned receivers the Onkyo 875 would be my choice. ( best picture and best sound )
But you have not mentioned the Yamaha RX-V 3800 or the Marantz SR 7002/ 8002 which could even top the very good Onkyo TX-NR 905.
I hope what hifi will review them in the near future.
