As far as I can see prices for tv's have been dropping consistently for quite some time. Take the Sony 40" W4000. In April it was £1200, at the end of July when I bought one, it was £850. before being replaced by the W4500 in autumn I saw it on t'interweb for as low as £750.

When I initially started looking at a new tv about 2 years ago (can't rush into these things y'know), I was expecting to spend about £1500-£2000 to get something good, instead 2 year later I spent £850.

And, I believe price rises can only be called profiteering if there is a large increase in demand and they put the prices up because you have no real choice but to buy that companies products. (such as some petrol stations did a few years back when the oil refinery blockade protests were happening).
