If you’re going to use it for music (CD, Streaming) and/or have an older receiver that does not have the latest processing formats, but has a 7 channel input, then go for the Panasonic as it blows the Sony out of the water. (Leave the Panasonic audio processing modes off)

If it’s just Blu-Ray/DVD films your after then save some dosh and go for the Sony.

NOTE: I have compared them side by side, and for me personally I will be getting the Panasonic in the New Year.

Ok Cheers Bill-The specified Pioneer Receiver is 2 years old.What are the latest `processing formats` that Modern receivers have? I`m not bothered at all by 3D-TV,by the way!

If your reciever is 2 years old then it probably already has them. (Assuming you have HDMI inputs)

I have been looking at many diff. players the last week, and I bought the P 500 today. I was looking at the marantz 5005 ,it's at a good price since the 5007 is out, and the yamaha 1020 also. What I really want is the CA751, but I don't think I need to pay that to get a desent cd player and PQ for the rest of my settup. The P 500 seems to deliver the things I want, and I read in a rew. that panasonic had used some 'fine components to the 2ch out. It has a 30 day refund so I will test carefully and deside 🙂

Had a demo of both and the Panasonic beat the Sony in picture and audio quality, the Panasonic is more on the level of a mid range £500 bluray player. It's a no brainier, get the Panasonic.

i bought the bdt500 about 10 days ago,i mostly intend to use it on listening to cd's and watching the odd concert..i wanted one player for all,not a separate cd and blu ray players..i've to say that i find the sound a bit bright,don't know if it's cause is still quite new...with the vocals you hear lots of sssssssss and zzzzzzz and tttttttttttt.........i hve to say that none of this is evident with my 10 years old sony dvd player,so the jury is still out...
