Just thought I'd mention (which is not to overlook the problems others reported, in their numbers, on this thread), that I received my S370 today and have been playing an assortment of discs since I unpacked it. This is a marked step up from the PS3 when it comes to Blu Ray playback.

The picture is sharper, motion is smoother, but the difference in sound quality is most remarkable -- a genuine leap in terms of clarity, detail, and cohesion.

I think it's £100 extremely well spent (and I was prepared to be underwhelmed). Anyway, I hope Sony resolve the problem sooner rather than mid-August, because I think it's a fantastic player and exceptional value for money. Would be nice for all the rightly disgruntled posters on this thread to get some enjoyment out of their BDP.

As a happy punter, I just wanted to retore a little balance to the thread...

Dupes,

If you look a few a dozen or so posts back Sony have stated they should have a fix ready by Mid August. This explains why most have gone quiet, just waiting for a fix and hopefully this time it works.

DOH - did not see that through the fog of disappointment and annoyance. Thanks Riggit. Lets hope mid August is a maximum, though now idea why it will take until then or how they can forecast that sort of time to fix it. Fair enought to say a week or so as an estimate, but so long for this sort of thing seems to be finger in the air stuff.

I agree Dupes it is a bit strange and the only thing I can think that is causing the delay is that Sony stuffed up once quickly releasing a fix that didn't fix it and so they are making sure it is fixed this time before releasing it. I guess I would rather have one fix that works than half a dozen that eventually fix it.

On the other hand maybe the problem is deeper and harder to fix than anyone initially realised.

Whatever the case 2 weeks to go :)

Well the time is up and suprise surprise no update that I have seen. Even if they are struggling to fix this it would only be polite to update by the time mentioned, to let everyone know.

Has anyone heard anything at all?

Hi all, I would like to update you on the current situation regarding software updates for our latest range of BluRay players.

The new version of software for BDP-S470/570 will be available for download as of tomorrow 18th August.

The version for the BDP-S370 will be made available, after further testing, towards the end of the month. I will let you know the exact date once finalised.

Once again, please let me apologise for the inconvenience caused and be assured Sony are working hard to resolve this issue.

Regards

Hi John

Given the internal structures of these machines, can the software for the 370 not just be that iof the 470/570 - ok that then makes the 370 3D capable (which I read it would be upgraded to next year anyway) but that bonus is the least we all deserve?

Have the same sound drop out issue here in New Zealand using HDMI to a Sony TV. If I connect sound from BluRay player to my stereo amp no problem with the sound dropping out. Unlike the UK, Sony NZ at this stage refuse to accept that there is a problem and even though I sent them John's above posting their stance remains the same.

Deerfoot & everybody else,

I think I am one of the few that have no 'sound drop-out' issues or infact any issue whatsoever with the S-370.

I have tried this with a variety of equipment as follows:

TV - LG, Samsung, Panasonic

Amp - Sony 820, Onkyo 606, 607 & 875

HDMI cables : VDH, Chord Silver Plus, Chord Supershield

I have tried connecting the player straight to the TV as well as to the amp - no problem for dvd or blu-ray.

I hope this issue is resolved asap for you.

Hi 2 all. This may have been covered so forgive me if it has. I have experienced no sound dropouts to date but have experienced dropouts with video on a few occasions but just with DVD and not with Blu-Ray. My TV screen goes blank and I solve it by stopping and then starting playback. It always continues playback from the title it was playing. Not a major fault but annoying nevertheless. Thanks in advance for any comeback.

Hi All,

Just a quick update to let you know the software is now available by "Network Download" for the BDP-S370.

The network update facility for the other affected models (BDP-S470/570) should be enabled bery soon, in the meantime their software updates can be carried out via an upgrade disc method. I will update this forum when it's availability is confirmed.

Regards

John Cobb

shotage:I upgraded to the latest firmware - still cannot play Surround Sound when using BluRays... gah!

Are you sure this is due to the firmware?

Try this: go to the sound settings, and change the BD Audio MIX setting to OFF

It worked for me

I noticed, after loading the new firmware using the disc method, the player now needs more time to start. Everytime I insert a disc (dvd or blu-ray) and press play, the displays shows "wait" for more then a minute while it does nothing at all. Very Annoying!
