Hello

Well, add me to the growing list of Sony 370 Blu Ray Player and Sony KDL 40W4000 Bravia TV owners, who experience sound drop outs on blu ray playback!

I recieved the 370 unit last week, played Avatar, had one drop out for the entire film, so thought it might have been a simple glitch somewhere.

Just tried my latest blu ray, and it happened again in the first 5 minutes. Hence I went online, and I have now found this thread and am therefore not very happy about with Sony!

I can see the "fix" is to use a dedicated surround sound system with the 370 unit, but if you dont have the cash to upgrade to such a system, what are the options?

It would seem its a return it to Amazon job?

What a shame - great picture, great unit - what a Sony error!!!!

Completely agree. MIght be worth hanging on to see if there is a firmware update in the offing? Perhaps if you explain the situation to Amazon they will hang fire for a while and still allow you to return the player?

WHF Team, in light of the growing number of 370 owners experiencing a problem, any chance of getting in touch with Sony on this issue? Thanks.

Yep - I think thats the only option.

Will contact Amazon and Sony on Monday and see what's what.

I too think someone from the WHF team should comment on this, to sell a product that is not compatible with another product, from the same brand, is beyond belief really.

So - is my best bet to go out and buy an optical cable, and use that along with the HDMI?

My knowledge is very limited on tech stuff, and based on Mrtuft it would seem to have worked for him?

I've emailed Sony - no reply.

I spoke to Amazon today who will collect the unit on friday, but if I can find a fix before then I will keep it, as it truly is perfect for my needs - apart from the sound stopping!

From reading the rest of the entire thread, is my only other option buying a surround sound system for the player to work with??

Laslty, if not the S370 - can anyone recommend a good alternative as unfortunately, changing my TV is not really an option!

Thanks!

Annoying isn't it!

Well, I think if you can, you should return it, as I spoke to Sony Support who tell me "there are no other reports of this issue".

They suggested I change HDMI port and cable, both of which I have done and it still happens.

So my unit goes back to Amazon tomorrow. I can't be sure if Sony will ever issue fix so I'm not taking the risk. Shame.

Just to keep you guys informed - I have mailed Sony Support with the issue to try to resolve before I take back to retailer!

(the more people complain about the problem to Sony, hopefully they will listen & try to resolve the bug)

As soon as I get a response back from them I will post.

I have emailed Sony too - but no reply to that as yet.

Strapped for cash - thanks for your comments, but the operator at Sony said they can't use any other forum other than their official forum for product feedback, as, and I quote "people could just write anything on other forums" - interesting!

I tried an £80 HDMI cable to resolve the issue, as per Sonys suggestion, didn't change anything.

Will be going for the Panasonic BD 85 me-thinks!

I've been having the same problem, just posted this on Amazon:

"I've been having exactly the problems described with my W4500. Have just fired up the player, it's run a network update (released today) and watched an episode of The Wire and it seems to be working perfectly now. It would have had the sound issue 4 or 5 times during one episode before. Might be worth giving it a try before sending them back to Amazon."

Finally, i've been having the same problem since i got this. Having the same issue with BR, DVD's, and IP media. I've got a sony KDL40W4500.

Looks like my next port of call is going to try optical cable to see if that resolves it. Hopefully it will as i really like the player.

Try the upgrade instead of the optical cable. If you player isn't on the internet, instructions and the file you need for a manual update are here: http://support.sony-europe.com/tvhc/downloads/downloads.aspx?site=odw_en_GB&f=BDPS37X_v567&m=BDP-S370

Hi all,

I've been in contact with Sony and pointed them in the direction of this forum topic. It would appear that the problem is a compatibility issue with the TVs that should hopefully be fixed with a simple firmware upgrade. I don't have any word yet as to when the upgrade will be released but we'll let you know as soon as we get any more info...

Cheers.

Thanks for the feedback from Sony Andy.

Just thought I'd add to this thread. I have experienced short drop outs when playing Bluray disks on my newly purchased S370 (from Amazon) with the sound going through my Sony 40EX503 TV's internal speakers. I do not have an external speaker system at present.

Quite surprising that Sony have made such a blunder with their own kit!

Si

Edit FYI: Whilst watching Avatar on Bluray this evening I experienced around 10 sound drop outs in total, each lasting for approximately 2 seconds. The S370 was connected to the 40EX503 via an Amazon Basics high-speed HDMI cable.

Just like to give more ammunition to the plight of the growing number.....

Set-up :- Sony 40EX503 and BDP-S370 connected with £5 HDMI cable from thatcable.com (as reviewed on this site) ie sound through TV speakers.

Experienced a couple of sound drops on first play of BD disc (Star trek). Not tried any more discs yet (and don't have disc now as returned to friend).

Just updated firmware on both TV and BD (PKG4.034EUL-106 and M03.R.567).

Will this solve it???? let you know soon.....

Hi again,

I've spoken to Sony again today and they're working on a firmware update - it looks like an update for the player at the moment. They've assured me we/you'll be the first to know. Hopefully shouldn't be too long...

cheers

Fantastic Andy, thanks for the support. I just found the forum and saw how many people were going through the same thing and was; glad almost everyone had already contacted Sony like I did when I first got the player.

For me changing the player is not an option because, believe it or not, my shelf is not wide enough to hold a new player, the majority are way too bulky and deep, so they stick out. Not to mention that as soon as I found this problem on the original player I had bought, the Sony BDP S-570 (more expensive, mind you) and the Bravia 52" LED TV, I contacted Sony and they had no idea what I was talking about. So I returned it and bought a Panasonic Bluray player, horrible DVD quality and the sound the player made while reading a DVD was loud and clunky; the Bluray capability and picture was OK but I was not keeping a player that could not read a simple DVD. I returned that one and tried my luck going back to Sony, this time BDP-S370. Sound drop happened again!!! Tried my sister's Samsung and the problem wasn't there. Finally after all my troubleshooting (not knowing this forum existed) I came to the conclusion it was the Sony player/TV combo that was the problem.

THE "FIX": THE ONLY WAY I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO FIX THE PROBLEM IS WITH......COMPOSITE VIDEO/AUDIO CONNECTION. LOL. Ok so the point of a Bluray player is for HDMI connectivity I know...but until the update comes out, Composite has ZERO sound drops.

I strongly discourage getting a different player, I have been through several, and by far Sony's is the best. Just be a little patient and keep harassing Sony Corp for that update.
