Sony AV amp - Apple TV 3 question

Quick bit of advice please.

Just bought Apple TV 3.

I have a Panasonic GT30 42" tv which I am presently plugging the ATV 3 directly into via HDMI3 input.

I also have a Sony DA5400ES AV amp.

At the moment just the digital optical lead goes into this for Dolby 5.1 Surround sound option plus of course any other sound format.

Questions are :

1. Will it benefit, picture wise, the ATV3 putting the HDMI output into the amp rather than direct to tv input?

2. Does ATV 3 do sound over hdmi rather than the optical lead into my amp?

Obviously it is all working fine as it is but I was wondering if my amp would be better off doing the scaling and improve picture quality.

Your thoughts please.

Ta.

ATV via HDMI to AV Receiver is the single connection you should use here - in my opinion.

You could also use the ATV via optical to another unit for secondary reasons - for instance I have ATV via optical to my Naim Uniti Lite fo Airplay, and via HDMI to my A/V Receiver for movies, etc.

BB - to the point as always.
Juzzie Wuzzie - food for thought and certainly didn't think this as an option.

I think in my case, I will feed the ATV through my Sony AV amp anyway as it cuts down on my ever growing spaghetti lead count at the rear of my av rack.

But thanks for both answers, you have put my mind at ease.
