In the group test verdict the WHF team warned of a try before you buy policy.

Has anybody actually seen or heard of this issue in this particular set?

Cheers

Yes I did see this Clare but I understood most of the thread to have moved on to comment about other Sony sets.

Indeed - but the OP was someone who returned their 46Z5500 for backlight reasons.

We're sure most Sony sets are fine - around half of the review samples we've had from Sony this year have been flawless - but there are clearly issues with enough of them for us to recommend caution.

It's an annoyance, as in some areas - particularly motion-handling - the Sonys are class-leading sets.

Understood Clare thanks. If I can get a set on the basis it can be returned if there are any issues I should be fine.

I've always had a Sony set and never had a problem.

Afraid i cant comment on the 46Z5500 but I had to return 2 40WE5 Sonys before i got one with no bleed (well, a tiny bit if I really try hard).

Must say though, it was well worth the effort. Its a great picture.

Maybe worth noting, my clouding / bleed was only viable in a very dark room (which is when I watch movies). If I put even a small lamp, I could not see it. If you dont watch TV in a very dark room, your probaly ok anyway....

Know where your'e coming from Biggus. I've had a 40 inch W series for a couple of years now and I must say its perfection (for my eyes anyway!)

If I understand it correctly though the backlight issue can crop up on any of the 2009 sony larger sets (W or Z range) so its a bit hit and miss but worth the gamble/hassle as the picture is so good.

Thanks for the heads up Nick about the darkness of the room.
