Sony 40v3000 Vertical Banding ?

Hi, I've had this TV for just over 12 months ( warrant only just expired ). I put switched the TV on the other day to watch some football and noticed what I can only describe as " faint vertical stripes " across the whole of the screen. I notice them more when watching something where there is a large area of the same colour, it was so distracting, I couldn't be bothered to watch the whole match. After researching on the internet I think my Tv has "Vertical Banding", am I right ?

Can I do anything or will Sony do anything to fix this problem ? I've read on another forum that there is a firmware update that might help, if so, how could I get this ?

As with any TV screen problem - once you know it's there, it drives you nuts, so any help would be extremely appreciated.

Firmware updates I'm not sure, but in terms of what else can be done it's always worth contacting the retailer. They should always be your first port of call (not the manufacturer). Many retailers however will not do anything once the one year guarantee is up. The sale of Goods Act means that if you can prove that it was a manufacturing defect you may be able to get it sorted, but it's up to you to prove it. Generally this means paying an engineer to find the fault for you. But it depends on the shop, and also how common the fault is. It is also worth contacting Sony anyway to see what they say. They may be able to offer advice on how to fix it.
