for hooking up to sky and a Sony s570 blu ray player to a Panasonic V10

or, spend a little extra on something like this:

plus
http://www.richersounds.com/product/av-receivers/onkyo/txsr578/onky-txsr578-blk or

http://www.sightandsounduk.com/Denon-AVR1611-Av-Receiver.html

are the seperates options going to give a much better improvement over the all in package.

I've been set a mission by my parents who the system is for. Budget is around £300-£350

I would go and demo the systems and see which one you like the best.

I would not say the seperates would be better soundwise. Because in this price range i dont think there will really be a major difference. However, for funtionality and features the seperates will always win, purely because you can do more with it and adjust to your liking. Out of those i would go for the Denon or the Onkyo package

I was thinking the same thing.

Demo is not an option - I'm on an island and there are no stockists of any decent gear at all - so it's a buy blind stuation I'm afraid.

The seperates have the edge in terms of the functionality, but for simple sound 'ability' they're all similar as you say and so probably not worth the extra cash.

The Onkyo 'all-in-one' gets great reviews from the likes of TR so I can take comfort from that I guess.
