Hi Everyone this is my first post here, wondering if anybody has any information on these speakers. I bought a pair a while back using Audax TW025a8 titanium dome tweeters, though the only images online of this model use soft dome tweeters, and the model up (28.4) use the metal dome. Can anyone confirm whether this is the factory installed tweeter or a substitute? it is not unheard of for small companies to substitute drivers without specifying, as they run out of one sort, just thought i’d see what people know about these, as i’m essentially flying blind.

Cheers.

Welcome! You seem to be quite a collector, especially of headphones.

I didn’t know these speakers, and I suspect they weren’t imported into the UK. Are these the Australian brand I googled? If so, maybe an email might elicit an answer or have they gone bust? The website has a copyright 2012 which has the whiff of no longer trading.

There was also a US Orpheus based in Locust Valley, New York, which folded in 2022 according to Stereophile. Was it them?

Hi, these are from the Australian brand, who (to my belief) still operate, the issue is most likely that being a small manufacturer, they simply ran out of the specified tweeters and substituted these in. As a matter of fact the Audax in mine were damaged and I have put in Seas H414s as a replacement (out of some 90s AEs)

Your hunch may well be right, and as you say, there was quite a bit of commonality between between drivers in those days.
