Just curious,what type of hardware do Sky use to actually show movies?

Sky's deliverable requirements are the same as all the other broadcasters. Standard def is digi beta tape 16:9 full height anamorphic.HD is 1080 50i on HDCamSR or HDCam tape (although for films 1080 25 PsF is equally acceptable - it is fundamentally the same thing and the Sony VTRs can cross-convert to most formats) with either discrete 5.1 surround or 2 channel Dolby E data tracks or both (HDCamSR can store 12 tracks of audio/data, HDCam only 4). These tapes can then be ingested into a hard disc based file server system and played out from there or straight to air from tape.
