Sky HD through TV sounds muddled

my day to day tv watching system comprises a 3 year old Panasonic Viera TH-42PX60B connected via a (WHF freebie competition winning) Chord HDMI lead to my Sky Hdbox.

I have no seperate external sound processing - just the TV.

I notice particularly on feature films on Sky, that the sound is really muddled and dialogue is very quiet> it's all soundtrack.

Am I missing a trick here.

Is there any way I can get a more balanced sound, other than saving up for a sound bar for under my TV?

There is seems to be few adjustable options on both my TV and HD box. DVD plays and sounds just fine

The only thing you could do is go into the Sky sound menu and make some adjustments. I don't suppose you have 'Dolby Digital' selected by mistake?

That shouldn't matter, if he's only got HDMI connected then it won't be passing DD anyway, Sky only passes stereo down the HDMI cable.
