I am fancying getting sky HD for the world cup but don't want to pay the extra £10 pound a month as money tight and a been payin them 50 quid a month for years so don't feel a should give them more . A was thinking o haggling wi sky for a box or another idea a saw one in a cash converters for sixty quid . A see sky are advertising for manual set up wi existing customers on some deals . Would I be able to buy the box and get some leads and set it up myself or would I be better thru sky. I live in the Scottish Borders so am just wanting it for the hard drive plus BBC and itv HD for the footy. Any help would be appreciated cheers

Would a freesat box work thru me existing sky dish a just have sky+ .

you will get bbchd and itvhd , thats it for hd , but both are covering the world cup in hd ..

Yes a Freesat box will work with your Sky Dish....

Just to be clear, are you going to be using the Sky+HD box as an additional box or a replacement for your current Sky+ box?

As if you go this route,it will have cost implications if you want to be able to use the "Plus" functions on both Sky boxes

Yeah the plan was basically to swap me sky+ box wi a HD one and utilise the extra memory and the free channels but dunno if it would work . Thought about haggling wi sky but they so tight they wouldn't give a blind sparrow a worm

Ah well if it's to replace your current box, then yes you can use a Sky+HD box without paying the HD subscription and you will have access to BBC HD ,ITV HD,Luve TV HD and 4 HD in addition to your current subscription channels.

You can try going to Sky and getting a deal out of them-Don't be surprised if you don't though, you're nothing but an ARPU statistic to them!

But yes,you could obtain a S/H Sky+HD box from cash converters and fit it yourself.

It's just a case of swapping cables and viewing card from one box to the other + HDMI cable , then phoning Sky to get the viewing card paired to the new box and away you go.

I knew one day someone would use the acronym ARPU...............which I am very honoured to have learnt (from my Virgin Mobile days) means Annual Revenue Per User,..............think it exceeded £500.00 average for the first time with Sky subs over the last 12 months

And with how many subscriptions............is it 9 million plus now .......think so?

Staggering amount of revenue, but still a good product that meets a requirement, not sure which came first though?

Cheers have to get me hands on a HD box a think may try sky too worth a shot

You could take another view on the cost.
If a decent freesat box is £100 - then thats 10 months SKY+HD viewing.
If £200 - then 20 months and so on and so forth.

No I am not Carol Vorderman despite my mathematic genius.......................
