I was just watching Star Trek on HD, and though this is not that great, so switched to the SD on, and its almost the same.

Yes there is a slight difference, but I remember it was like.... WOW now its not worth 10.00 per month.

Can someone back me up, I was switching between other movies that had a SD and HD movie playing at the same time, and I am not impressed anymore.

I think sky have done something IMO.

Is it just me?

You might need a trip to the opticians. I am not joking. The difference is stark.

Switching between crank2 on sky action and hd and there's a clear difference although I've got to admit the SD channel doesn't look bad at all. The film, if you can call it that, is rubbish obviously.

I have noticed their is more noticable difference if you watch on a larger screen

Liked the first one, turned the second one off after 10 min.

I think I am compairing it to Rush and ESPN.

Never seen it, I only put this one on because it had just started when I read this thread.

You were lucky, it goes downhill from there...

I see Sky are increasing their charges by £3 per month in the autumn, no doubt they are trying to recoup the revenue lost since they were forced to cut the wholesale prices of Sky Sports channels. When that happens i am canceling the movie channels.

Firstly they haven't actually lost any revenue yet as they haven't yet acted upon the Ofcom ruling and secondly it's because BT have already announced their pricing for Sky Sports that Sky have banged this increase in because that allows them to increase the wholesale price to BT causing BT to lose money on every Sky Sports package they sell.

When that happens I am canceling the movie channels.

Yes I was thinking something similar myself, we watch so few of them and on the odd occasion we do it's usually off Box Office anyway...

wait so, i have to pay more for movies so they can sell the sports channels cheaper? how is that fair.

No it's sports that's going up in price, what myself and Chudders (is that Chudleigh in Devon Paul?) are saying is that it'll be the movie channels that get the chop to save some cash.

No I live in London,

Lets start a campaign to encourage people to cancel the movie channels!

I work in post production, and remember a conversation I had with a sceptical Sky Engineer at a Technical conference about 5 years ago now. He said the HD picture quality was great while they had so few channels to transmit, but there was only a limited amount of bandwith, so as more channels (HD+SD) were added the signal would become more and more compressed to fit within the same bandwidth limits.

I dont have sky, but am guessing there are more channels than there were 5 ago. In this sense more is definitely less.

I think it's time they launced another satelite...
