Ok don't laugh but I bought a JVC LT-32C50BJ about 5 years ago. It said all HD ready etc and compared to the enormous box I had before it it was great. Just last week I had Sky+HD put in only to find that my "HD ready" tv doesn't even have a HDMI socket !!! (hey I asked you not to laugh) it does have a 15 pin VGA (DSub) input and a host of other inputs. So here is the question am I going to be able to connect my Sky+HD box to this TV and get HD? I have heard of HDMI to VGA cables, converters etc and the sky box has several connections in the back of that, but will I get a better picture than just using a good scart lead? Please help me and I promise to save up for a better TV next year.

Are you sure the TV is HD Ready? I was under the impression that a TV had to accept HD input from either DVI/HDMI and YPbPr, so you really should have either DVI or HDMI if it's HD ready.

Older TV's may well have VGA, DVI and Component; all are capable of producing 720p. I would personally check all your TV inputs, and all possible outputs on the Sky box before proceeding any further. You may well be able to just run a component cable between the two.

it should be a DVI input at least or if not it is no HD Ready

Thanks all for your help. Andy, should I connect the Sky+HD box to the TV using a VGA to VGA cable, rather than a HDMI to VGA cable, as I suppose it's only going to be as good as the VGA input of the TV?

Look for a DVI input (one on the left):

With this, you can just use an HDMI to DVI cable to connect the Sky HD box. If it really only has a VGA, I guess you could instead still get the HDMI to DVI cable and then get a converter to convert the DVI signal to a VGA signal.

EDIT - I can't vouch for the website but, if you do need a VGA signal, something like this I think is what you need. Bear in mind this cable will not transmit audio.

EDIT (again) - Sorry, bit more research shows that won't work I'm pretty sure since you will need some kind of conversion to convert the HDMI signal to the analogue VGA signal. This looks more promising, but ensure you read the customer reviews and are aware of some of its limitations.

Final EDIT - after reading more of the reviews of the above one, it says it doesn't work with Sky HD. So I'm giving up!
