Hi

Had this box almost a year and it sometimes freezes and remote wont change chanel or even switch off. Only way is to power off and restart.

Is this normal or require a replacement under guarantee??

Fear not, you are not alone, dalekwho.

This occasionally happens to my Sammy as well, so hopefully a software update from Sky will exterminate the problem (see what I did there?).

Unless you were recording something at the time, you won't usually loose anything by performing said reset.
In fact, I've fitted an inline switch to my Sammy's power lead so even The Wife can perform the reset when I'm not home should the need arise.
By the way, this locking up shenanigans is not unique to the Samsung model either, it seems to be happening across the board.

Thanks Tonya. I'll persevere. I was just worried that the warranty will expire soon and I was going to be left with a faulty box at my cost!

My Thomson suffers the same problem.

If you do a google search you will get a huge number of links. Many seem to blame PSUs and power supply capacitors. I have even read that you should regularly disconnect all of the cables from the box regularly to prevent a build up of static electricity.

I haven't done any of these yet, but just turn the box off at the mains as you do.

As it's a year or so old, I presume you have checked that it's dust free?
I've seen so many PC and Sky units absolutely caked in dust before now, which causes them to overheat and shut down.
But as you can read on any of the onofficail Sky forums out there, this locking up thing is certainly not incommon.
Presuming of course you are not talking about resetting every day or so !!

Re: Sy hd xox issue

I have had this problem with my sky hd box. I am now on my 4th box in 18 months. When it works every thing is great. The samsung box seems to give a better picture than the old thompson box. Complain to sky, they should change the box if still in warranty. If you are out of warranty threaten to leave sky unless they fix the problem, they will replace the box free of charge. Don't take a maintenance contract as these are simply not worth it. Hope this helps

Get sky to change the box ( I've said this before!) do not pay, they will do it for free. I am on my 4th box.

Cheers.
