I have dd set on sky box,but all seems to come up is stereo, thanks.Do you have the Sky HD box connected to the amp via optical/coaxial or just HDMI? Sky boxes only output stereo over HDMI!

And if you're using an optical/coaxial cable have you assigned the input on the amp?

Do you also have a digital audio cable between the Sky+HD box and the receiver, as well as the HDMI. If not, you need one, and to have the digital audio out on the Sky box set to output 'Dolby D'.

You then have to ensure the Onkyo takes video from the HDMI and sound from the digital audio connection - you do this in the input assign menu's digital input submenu.

Oh, and not everything on Sky is in DD, so you'll only see the indication on the receiver's display when the programme is being broadcast with a DD soundtrack.

Hi,hd box is connected with optical lead and is assigned, the hd box is not changed, the only thing i have changed is the amp from onkyo 606 to denon 2310.
I have sound just when using 606 i used to get dd light up on amp.

Ah right, didn't see that you'd switched to the 2310 from the Onkyo. If it's all set up and assigned, I don't see any reason why you're not getting Dolby Digital. Or are you saying you're getting the 5.1 sound, but not the front panel indication? You should at least be getting a little Dolby DD symbol in the top left corner of the display if the Dolby decoder is working.

If you have assigned an unused optical input to whichever source selection you are using for Sky+ HD, and you are still getting sound, that suggests you are taking sound from the HDMI, not the optical connection. Try disconnecting the optical digital completely and see whether you still have sound.

Using PLII will muddy the water, as it will create a surround effect even from a stereo soundtrack, thus giving the impression that 5.1 is coming from the Sky+HD box even when it isn't.

Then you have either not assigned the inputs correctly, or the Denon is overriding the assignment when the HDMI connection is carrying audio.

Do you also have 'digital' set in the 'input mode' option for whichever input you're using for the Sky+HD box?

For each input there's a choice of input mode and decode mode. As far as I remember the default input mode is auto, in which case the HDMI may well override the digital audio connection. You need to set the input mode to 'digital'.

THANKS Andrew,it is sorted,I know that there is a lot of posts on this site concerning assigning different things and it was one of the things putting me off,if things are hard to set up I will not usually bother to buy,but after demoing a couple of amps ,including the yamaha 2065 yesterday I came to the conclusion that it is the best,THANKS for your time.
