Mike0619,

The Sony is a sensational buy at this price.

Not sure about the night mode though!

Night mode does not do anything on my amp, yes its a good price, but spend your money elsewere.

Night mode on tones the bass down a bit and a little trebble, you can do this yourself.

Is there something better for £199, brand new + free delivery?

grdunn123:because it's not worth paying £200 for 'night mode' ...

I think that was established. I was thinking along the lines of the amp itself.

The OP has said that it's the only thing his lacks.....??

I auditioned both about 6 months back. The DA2400 is a better and more refined receiver than the 606, so on that basis alone I would say it's a worthwhile "upgrade" at the price. The difference isn't night and day, however, so it's up to you whether you feel it's worth shelling out another 200 notes. Then again, you could probably get at least half your outlay back by flogging the 606 on a well known auction site...

Had the Sony 2400 home for a couple of weeks to trial a while back and thought it was poor compared to my (then) Onkyo 806. I think if you're gonna contemplate upgrading from your Onkyo then I would look for something newer and better to make it worthwhile.

BUT of coz!

I have a Denon AVR-2310 at home and I think it's nowhere near as good as my Onkyo TX-SR875!

I have a Sony and night mode doesn't make any noticeable difference on my amp.

i was thinking more of selling it on ebay first because they were going for about 180 then would only have to put £20 towards it. Or should i just stick with it

I've got the sony amp and the night mode doesn't really make a lot of difference. To me this is a side ways move. You're swapping a receiver with more grunt for one that is a bit more musical.

Mike0619,

I got my Sony STR-DA2400ES today and I'm mighty impressed with it. I also have a Denon AVR-1910, and my preference is for the Sony.

The Denon is too warm for my taste and I thought the build quality was unremarkable. The GUI is absolutely rubbish too.

The Sony is a much weightier and sturdier machine and has a very good sound quality to it. I like it.

Grdunn123,

HHmmm.......that's a thought.....I have 4 at home now with more to come!

I like the 2400es quite a bit that I'm going to try and get hold of a 5400es to see if I like that enough to get rid of my 875.
