Marantz CD63KI £90
Pioneer A656 Reference £76
B&W DM603 £60
Atacama stands £20
Maplins speaker cable
Cambridge Audio interconnects

Nobody who's heard it can believe it cost under £300.
Equally those who haven't heard it can't believe anything so cheap can sound good lol
It's because most people would pay well over £300 for these. When CD player and speakers alone usually go for £250+ :)

Only thing you can usually get at the prices above are the stands. The rest usually goes for more.

You've managed to get some great bargains there Gaz.

I know the speakers were a bargain but there were plenty of CD63KIs around for under £150 when I got mine & a few others under £100 that were too far away.

EDIT
Just checked sold items on Ebay & 17 63KIs have sold recently for under £150, 2 of them under £100

Marantz PM6004 and Tannoy R2's off gum tree for £150

Was a really good system, gave it to my little cousin.

Not really sure if I done him a favour cause his hooked on Hi-fi now.

Certainly for young kids bedroom systems they sound very impressive. I reckon I'd need to spend proper money to make a significant difference to them.

Well, the ones I’ve done so far only take rudimentary soldering skills (no need to even remove the PCB) and a multimeter for the bias, and are well worthwhile :)

I’ve come to the conclusion if it’s a budget build and you’re planning on modding it you’re better off with a CD53 anyway. Saves the trouble of bypassing the HDAM, PCB is the same and you can easily pick one up for under £30. Chassis will need some dynamat and replicating the CD63 MKII chassis brace will help. No nice toroidal transformer like the KI but that must be a minor difference in sound quality.

Well as a stroke of luck I’ve just found 2 unused LME49720s and an OPA2132 in my drawer so that’s the Op-Amps for both the CD player and amp phono stage sorted out! :D
