Hi all,
I’m looking to take my audio setup to the next level and have just upgraded my amplifier (previously I had the Musical Fidelity M3Si). My current system is:
  • Amp: Copland CSA 100
  • Streamer: WiiM Pro (I use the amp’s DAC)
  • Speakers: ATC SCM11
  • Streaming: Tidal
I’d love to hear your suggestions on what I should focus on next to further improve my system.

What is your budget, room size? You want to stick just with digital?

As always, source first then speakers.
ATC SCM19's???
Or better still, a second hand pair of Arcaydis EB2s.

The speakers are fine, the amp is also more than decent. This leaves the streamer.

Your budget will determine the quality of your upgrade, weighting up the value of both amp and speakers, I assume you set aside the same budget for the source?

So what is it you want to get out from the source? Do you need a SACD/CD hybred player, do you require a turntable? Or if you're thinking about upgrading your streamer there are a lot of options depending on your budget of course.

Why not pop over to your nearest dealer and have a chat, perhaps they'll steer you in the right direction.

As others have said, and I'd also side with them, your system is now at a level where a dedicated streaming transport makes sense and will make a noticeable difference in overall sound quality, better power supplies, dedicated audio pcb's, better clocking units all add up to a better product, there's a few on the market now, just decide your budget.... and try to get some products to try out in your system at home, this way you will be able to A/B the wiim pro and said demonstration streamer, I used to use the Wiim ultra as a transport, demoed the SOtM sms-200 neo ultra streaming transport and didn't look back, it took my streaming section of my system to another level, even with the modestly priced Eversolo dac z8.
I'd look at the Eversolo t8 if that's within your allocated budget

Hi, ATC SCM 40 are great speakers for quite a big room, not small. They just Loove a lot Ampers and high quality of them. With high respect for Copland (I was user of Copland), this is not the best matching. Copland will love speakers with more sensitivity. Spendor, Proac, Triangle, Fyne Audio will work better here. And yes the streamer. WiiM is nice little toy for boys. For big boys, streamer from Hifi Rose or Lumin will be better and more on level of your amp. Dac inside Copland is not very special as well. I just hope you will not throw your hifi out of window now😉. You asked for ideas, you have got them. BR.

Thanks 🙂 I bought the Copland last week so won't be getting rid of it anytime soon. Also I think it sounds great with my existing speakers. Agree regarding the streamer though

Consider Volumio Rivo, Lumin U2 mini and Eversolo T8 Streaming transport, run it through a high end DAC like Gustard R26 (R2R) Gus'd X26 (delta sigma), or Denafrips Pontus 15th or Laiv Harmony

You can scale down DAC or use your amps digital DAC input if this is more than what you've budgeted.

Im very happy with the streamer in my wiim amp pro

The other day i noticed that streaming from my phone to the amp (not bluetooth) using tidal it didin't sound as good as my pc and digital in my amp

I feel roomfit (roomcorection) with a good mic make a huges difference

You might think the frequency response is good but not as good as it can be with roomfit, room correction

I can imagine you haven't tried it, get a mic and try roomfit (room corection)

It can give you much better bass

My speakers also does -6db 56hz and have around 85db sensitivity and i can play loud, using roomfit and trying to get most out of the bass using a good mic (could be the usb mic from dayton), makes a huge difference having a quality sub, you get much better bass extention + the high pass filter cutting some of the bass from the atc also gives better sound and more headroom before the speaker give up

My frequency response went from -6 db 56hz to around -5 db at 40hz and that makes a huge difference -10db around 35hz + sync between the sub and front speaker i almost have to much bass from the songs with alot of bass, but the frequency response i flat

I would add a sub but you need to get the wiim ultra since a wiim pro don't support the use of a sub

Have to say the Wiim Pro Plus would need to see a significant upgrade by another competitor for me to want to upgrade it anytime soon. No doubt there's plenty of good options out there by a whole bunch of providers, but the interface, regular app updates and performance, plus - importantly - the stability of the app as that's the main controller really for the device, are all excellent.
