Setting up a surround system

Ok after reading many threads about setting up surround systems , i'm still no wiser

What are you actually looking for ? how much sound are you looking for from the rears ? Obviously you can have too little and too much but how do you define this were is the sweet spot?

Thanks , i just need a pressure monitor now as i don't believe the auto setup was as good as it could of been

So when you have all the sound setting like movie , sport , music etc what do people mostly use?
