setting delay on av amps,what seating position

HI

When i am setting the distance and level setting on my amp,(i sit offset to the centre speaker this is where i allways sit) now do i set my speaker distance and speaker level via the sound meter. where I sit. or like my arcam manuel instructs -as if i were sitting in the middle of the speakers hot spots .hope you know what i mean
