Hi folks,

I've had a pair of Chartwell LS3 5a for 25 years & never had anything decent connected to them, but a domestic change has prompted me to get some new stuff.

I don't wish to spend a 'fortune' though,- this isn't going to be a hobby for me, just hope I can "get it right", so would really appreciate help from folk with experience.

My thinking is to buy good quality used stuff that would be too expensive for me to consider 'new'.

I need an amp, cd player & turntable, & my belief is that that's the order of their importance & probably costs too. (I've got my eye on a Planar2 turntable)

I would prefer an amp with tone controls, but I'm assuming the Chartwells 15 ohm impedance & low efficiency is going to limit the choice of amplifier.

If I'm right with that so far, - that's all I know.

I believe that Quad amps of the same vintage were considered a good match, whether any of the modern Quad amps would also work I'm not so sure.
