Hi everyone, i recently got some AKG 701's with an Onkyo digital dock , DAC Magic and a Little Dot III.

I listen to a lot of house, soul, disco, funk etc, and can't help thinking that the 701's are not suited to this type of music.

I've been reading the HD650's have better bass, anyone got any experience with these cans?

Thanks,

Mike

The K701s are superb and more often than not a firm favourite among classical and jazz fans. The HD650s are great all rounders and do offer better bass extension. At the price frankly there is very little to touch the HD650s although the Grado SR325is headphones are worth a listen as well (albeit they will "leak" sound a little more though).

Hope this helps - and merry Christmas!

What don't you like about them?

the senns have a very flat frequency range in my opinion and go for detail rather than excitement - guess depends how you like your music - the senns also leak a lot of sounds so i wouldnt worry about them or the grados

A few months back I bought a new pair of AKG K702s. This was when I still has my full rig up and running so the headphones were just a lark. I loved the K702s (which are identical to the 701s for all intents and purposes). They are incredibly detailed. I cannot imagine hearing further into a recording regardless of price. The sound is truly jaw dropping. However, when I had to retire my main rig and go to full time headphone listening the K702s had to be swapped for the the Senn HD650s simply because I needed the extra bass. The K702s just don't have the weight to bass that I like for long term listening pleasure. In every other respect, the K702s are the superior headphone IMO. But the Senns are senn-sational also (see what I did there... :)) I agree with the previous post that they are hard to beat for the money. I've been very happy using them and I listen to them at least an hour a day and often 2 or 3 hours at a time. They are very comfortable, and althought they do not have the supersonic detail levels of the AKGs, they are still highly detailed and offer fabulous clarity, but with that clarity you get superb bass. The bass is deep and weighty but without the slightest hint of boomyness. Very very good cans. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Hi Graham, did you source your LD3 from China (from David) or did you buy from the UK source, on Ebay ?

And if from China, did you have any problem with import taxes/duty etc ?

Cheers Richard................
