So called engineer has wrecked my pioneer a400 thinking of a cyrus 6 xp to replace it. Any opinions on a replacement welcome.

My guess is the cyrus will be considerably better. However, if big bass is important to you then something like a PMA1510AE may be better.

I'm worried I'm going to sit there thinking it doesn't sound as good as my last one.

The one thing these humungous old Japanese companies did well was consistency. Just get one that hasn't been 'hot-rodded' and enjoy. Next time you get a service make sure it's just that.

Some are barely 20 years old and shouldn't really need one yet.

My beloved amp is back and sounding good. In fact to me with the diamond 9.1 I prefer the sound to a kandy k2 bt and b&w cm speakers that I listened to maybe I'm wrong but I'm a happy bunny. But what about some dm 2/7's....

Great news about the amp! Did you find out the problem?

Ive seen a few people on here stating they prefer their old vintage amps to the latest breed (Creek Evo 50 / Arcam A19 / Kandy K2 etc). If my investments ever start giving me some money i will possibly be in the market for an amp so ill be interested to see if any sound better than my old Denon.

I use DM 2/7's with my A-400. Excellent match

Fwiw, try use your A-400 with the best possible source compenents and speakers which you can afford/accomodate

Unfortunately the A-400 has got expensive tastes
