I have been playing my arcydis dm1 speakers through my onkyo tx 8050 with no problems.so set up room 2 and tried to use my sansui 717 .if you turn the volume past quarter to the speakers start to get a crackle.thinking it was the amp I tried my sansui 417 and ran in to the same problem.so after changing the speaker cable and leads I still have the same problem.the onkyo is rated at 100 watts and both the sansui,s are rated less.so I have come to the conclusion that for some reason there is a compatibility problem between the dm1 s and the old sansui,s .but what the problem is is beyond me unless it just a power and impedance problem .can anyone shead any light on this or has anyone had a similar problem

Doubt it mate: the 417 is (I think) around 60w, while the 717 is about 80wpc. Whatever it is, it's likely not the amps. The Onkyo is 100wpc, so the difference isn't as great as you think it is.

I don't know what it is .but there fine with the onkyo.so it must in some way be the amps below quarter to the sansui,s are fine with the dm 1 s

Do you have other speakers to check the Sansuis with? If you are sure the problem is with the amps, and it does sound like it, it could be anything from dried caps, crackling pots, loose fuses/connections etc., to bias current and/or dc offset that need adjusting. Did you ever have them serviced, if not or if it was long ago, now could be the time. That is, if you still want to keep them.

EDIT: Can you describe how you have amps and speakers wired between rooms 1 and 2? You mention 2 amp setups and only 1 pair of speakers?

quarter to

Sorry, just to clarify, do you mean past the 9 o'oclock position or past the 3 o'clock position if the dial were a clock face?

Difficult to say, best contact Arcaydis support on +44 ( 0 ) 1562 865788 or techsupport@arcaydis.com, they should be able to help.

Been on to arcydis very helpfull the sansui,s are overloading the speakers .so it's turn it down .i think I'll have a look round for a lower power amp as I don't want to damage the best speakers I have owned.the arcydis dm1 speaker is exellent

That makes no sense whatsoever

Agree with drummerman. Overloading with what - certainly not with power if you only go up to a quarter volume, plus the Sansuis are rated less than the Onkyo?

The whole thread is confusing from beginning to end. If the OP implies the Sa;nsui/s are clipping, a less powerful amplifier will do nothing to alleviate this, quite the opposite. An amplifers volume 'knob' is not a reliable way of assessing how much power is going to the speakers although 'a quarter' of the way seems very early for an amplifier to run out of puff.

The speakers are small and will not take huge huge amounts of power but will be ok with short unclipped peaks of more than their continuous RMS rating, all speakers do. Unclipped being the most important factor. - If it sounds to loud, it normally is. Turn it down.

Still doesn't make sense. Imo, both of these Sansuis are unlikely to clip with the DM1: AU-717 in particular has a speaker protection circuit which should tell the OP if it is doing something unwanted. Being such an old vintage and not knowing in what nick their electronics are, there is probably something going on with them that DM1s don't like. Afraid we may never find out what it is...
