The manual for my Acoustic Enery Aegis evo 3's states that mass loading these floor standing speakers with sand will significantly improve their performance. Firstly the plastic bung is fitted and will be very tricky removing without cousing damage, then probably will need new bungs, and secondly can anyone recommend the correct salt free sand to put in them and where to get it?

I think the best is block paving sand as this is the finest (particle), available from wickes, I've used lead shot, not as messy and available from any good gun retailer, the smaller the better. I have 10kg in each of my Alphason single pillar stands.

Thanks for the reply, have seen a simular thread talking about attabites in speaker stands, not sure if it's any good for floor standers. I think that's probably what I'm looking for.
I'm not sure I want to put sand from a DIY store into my speakers.
Kiln dried sand from any DIY store is fine.
Only ever bought sharp sand. Does it say on the bag if it's kiln dried?

I used playsand that you find in toy stores-really fine but dense-I baked it in an oven for a while to make sure it was dry before putting into my R3's-make sure you use a funnel as if you have to wipe sand off the cabinets it will scratch.
