Hi all, I have had the above tv for a couple of weeks (its a replacement of phillips 9664 - dirty screen!)

I've started to notice the backlight at the top and bottom of the tv in the centre and about 2 inches up from the bottom on both sides. At the moment its only subtle except when the screen in that area is showing a lighter image and it is more obvious particulary when watching football, in which case the when the camera pans there appears to be a light line down the centre of the panel. At the moment its all subtle but its starting to irritate me already. does any one else have this tv and seen this happen, and do you think this is faulty or within the limits of an acceptable build standard?

the backlight is set to 15, 20 being the highest.

Thanks....

Hi,

I've returned 2 UE46C6000's for backlight issues. I took a picture of the screen while it was (attempting to) display a full screen black image. This is what I got...

Samsung conceded that the TV was not supposed to be doing this and to take it back to the retailer for a replacement.
I got the replacement which was worse still... Image of that available too.
So now I have no idea if all edge lit LED screens do this to some degree or wether its a problem with the 46 inch screens?

The retailer said that they had never seen anything like that before.

Let me know your thoughts... Is this what your seeing too?

Hi guys, from experience you need your backlight lower than 15, i generally have mine around 8 and the picture is superb (other than 3D where it is set much higher to compensate for the darkness of the glasses. )

If i watch a movie in darkness you can notice a small amount of backlight from the borders , i think if this is as concern for anyone then they really should look at going down the Plasma purchase route. For me the benefits of LED outweighed the downsides but everyones circumstances are different.

I have this TV and the backlight is not uneven like this at all!! Just a very dim torchlight effect in the corners when viewed off centre.

But have to agree the backlight needs to be reduced to 10 or less anyway.

The guys at Samsung support sent me these setting to use:

In Picture Settings:
Picture Mode = Movie
Back Light = 4
Advance Settings:
Black Tone = Darker
Dynamic Contrast = Medium
Picture:
- Options: Colour Tone = Normal
HDMI Black Level = Normal
Setup: General
- Game Mode = ON

Changing to these settings had the effect of Darkening the whole screen so the areas of the screen which are light, still remained lighther than the rest of the screen. So didn't make any difference to the problem.
This was the replacement TV... Same model (UE46C6000), Same issue... Bad batch?

My current settings are Movie, Brightness 45, Contrast 95, Backlight 15. I find that indoor or nighttime scenes disappear into a black screen with with no or very little images viewable. Brightly lit or outdoor scenes are OK. I have tried reducing the backlight to 10 but with no apparent change. I would welcome advice on the optimum settings for this TV.

I have bought an eye-one but have yet to get it working but that is another story. My latest progress is to wedge the eye-one against the screen with a camera tripod but yesterday when I came to load the DVE disc, I discovered that I had been sent an unreadable Region A bluray disc. So can anyone advise, please, on suitable settings until I get a replacement DVE Basics disc.

Could you put up your other settings please. Your contrast is too high anyway but it depends on all the other set up variables.

I have a 55C 8000 and it produces a really good picture.

I get a really good picture on my 55C8000 but my settings are nothing like the Samsung ones. I will go and write down what I have mine set at and re post. I do know that your backlight setting seems far too low ( mine is about 15 I think) and I have mine on STANDARD picture setting with most of the other things turned off. Could still be a fault on the set of course.

OK here are MY settings: for my UE 55C8000

Mode: Standard

Backlight: 17

Contrast: 77

Brightness: 42

Sharpness: 54 ( or to your taste)

Colour:50

Picture Options:

Colour Tone : Normal

Advance

Colour space : Native

LED motion Plus: Normal

Setup:General

Game Mode: Off

All the other settings are as the set came out of the box or OFF if given an option.

This setup works for me great but "other settings are available!"

I get some picture judder very rarely but I think that is from the SKY box as Blu Rays don't have it.

I dont get any patches of brightness.

ooh i assumed no one had any issues!

I dont believe you should have to reduce the backlight to single figures to conceal a flaw. Mine in now set to 12 and seems to be ok except when the camera pans and i can see the backlight at the top and bottom of the screen which thus creates a line down the centre of the picture!

Its interesting to note some of you notice the backlight in dark scenes, where as i am noticing the backlight in the light scenes! if the screen goes dark i dont see the backlight anywhere hence all is good but when there is light/bright areas on the screen thats when i see the backlight seeping through!

Thanks for sharing your thoughts.....
