Hi,

The Samsung LED TVs talk about LED back-lighting. Does this mean that the entire picture is produced using LED technology or it is an LCD screen with some additional LEDs to enhance the picture?

Cheers

Peter.

The screen is LCD, and it is backlit by LED's placed around the edge of the screen. The light is spread across the whole screen with a series of prisms.

Thanks for the explanation.

I thought it was a little odd that the marketing pushed the LED capabilities in that way.

They seem to separate LED TV from LCD TV.

Cheers

Yes, a common marketing tactic at the moment which leads to confusion. Samsung, LG et al produce LCD TVs with LED backlighting, so they're not pure LED sets.

What would be a pure LED tv, would it be OLED?
