Hi all, Having done plenty of research and reading of WHSV, I decided on a Samsung LE40M87 and finally ordered it today. The November Supertest comments on quality control issues with this set, but what should I look for when mine arrives? Any advice? Thanks.

Point taken! Although... I had decided to buy one before reading the November supertest. Frankly, I've spent far too much time reading reviews and forums about TVs as it is, and couldn't wait any longer to get a one, so I decided that as long as the one I got didn't have any problems, I'd most likely be happy with it. Since I didn't buy the one on display, I wasn't able to test out the actual one I was going to be given - that's what I want to do now, at home, and if it's duff, I'll send it back.

I'm conscious that when people spend their working days analysing things, they're going to notice minor issues that the rest of us probably wouldn't. Are the quality issues related to the build quality, picture quality, sound quality, are there too many dead pixels, buttons falling off etc?? The review didn't go into any detail, except to suggest that they're not all duff, hence my appeal for further advice...

So... any helpful advice on exactly what to look for would still be appreciated!

Thanks.

Sorry not to have got back sooner - not as much opportunity for Forum posting in pre-Awards frenzy...

Ok, the first 40in we got in for this Supertest (not the same model we First Tested previously - we like to keep manufacturers on their toes..) was simply wrong - picture looked really bad, something that anyone would spot. However, when we got some more examples of the set in, the differences were tolerably subtle.

Those differences were primarily about contrast and colour rendition. Simply put, skin-tones etc looked slightly more natural on some examples of the set than others - and this was after we'd calibrated the sets with THX disc etc, as per our usual benchmarks. (See How to, here).

As we concluded, we're happy the set is generally fine. If you're in anyway unhappy with your TV (after resetting its contrast, brightness etc), contact your retailer....

I have the Digital Video Essentials disc which I'll use to set everything up, and hopefully that will help reveal any obvious picture issues (if you found some of the differences 'subtle', I probably won't notice them at all!!)Thanks for the advice. It's great that you take the time to interact with readers and are able to offer some expert personalised advice to those of us that need it.
