Just been on the phone to richersounds to enquire about delivery dates for the new sony4500. Told a date of upto 3 weeks.

The sales patter tried to push the samsung on the basis that it was in stock and it was the same screen as the sony....

yeah right i thought!, but looking at the spec it is 100 hz with motionflow which is the biggest selling point on the new sony vs old.... so is the richersounds man right. Can i buy the samsung now for around 720 and save 150 quid and 3 weeks wait....

I am still sceptical.

You are right to be sceptical - great set that the Samsung is, it features none of the Bravia Engine engineering that Sony's put into the W4500 range. It's a real step up.

You can't blame the guy from Richer Sounds for trying, though - he wants your money now!

Yep, that's right.

But remember, they're only buying a raw ingredient - the panel. What engineering and finish goes on top of that can make a big difference to the end result - depending on the level of investment (in engineering and secondary components) each manufacturer is prepared to make.

I think Pioneer might have something to say about that!

Mind you, we haven't formally tested the Pioneer LCDs (also based on Sharp screens) yet.
