Looks like the planned F7000 PDP from Samsung has been scrapped............is this the end of Samsungs PDP production with only the H5000 in production this year?

Well, the link says that F8500 will continue into 2014. H7000 was a stripped down version of F8500 with no improvements anyway. So continuing F8500 makes more sense, both for Samsung and for consumers.

Looks like the writing's on the wall for PDP with only one new model from Samsung. Sad times for AV enthusiasts.

I would like to have seen Samsung go out with a bang like Panasonic rather than revamping older models.

The problem is that you can't make a 4K plasma, so it makes little sense for manufacturers to invest in plasma R&D. We will see more and more of 4K models in the coming years.

Quite true but it still means it wil be using LCD technology and everything that brings with it. OLED appears to be on the back burner for now with only LG committing to new models.

There is a shootout which happens in NY every year using the latest models from the leading manufacturers......................this year it seems we will see no Plasma panels so no reference TV's .

until OLED becomes a viable technology in terms of longevity and price.

Which, from what I gather from the industry generally, won't be for another two or three years.

Yes, and that's why Samsung, Sony and Panasonic have put OLED on the back burner for now. Only LG is continuing to sell OLED TVs, which gives it a unique opportunity to lead the sector.
