From what i read, the Samsung is more value for money, but i am not convinced.
The 'old' Sony 40W5500 has some backlight issues, but is nowadays only 599 pounds.
The new Sony 40Ex500 comes in at 649 pounds, and the Samsung is a lot cheaper at 449 pounds.

I fear the 50 Hz of the Samsung tv, because i watch a lot of fast-paced action movies.
So, if the three go head-to-head, which tv would you buy;

the;
- Samsung 40B550 50 hz tv (with good reviews) at 449 pounds.
- Sony 40W5500 100 hz tv (with good and bad reviews) at 599 pounds.
- Sony 40EX500 100 hx tv (with no reviews yet) for 649 pounds.

I Have the Sony 40EX500 and I compared it with the other 2 you mentioned and overall i think the Sony 40EX500 is marginally better. Not a great amount (because the EX500 is probably a facelifted W series and performance is similar).....but just for movies i would say the difference is greater over the Samsung. With HD I am very impressed with the EX500. And also, there is sufficient options available for you to fine tune too.

I would recommend the EX500 from my own experience. Also, I would guess the problems with W series have been ironed out in the EX500, so should provide higher confidence.

40EX500 40inch for £649?? Can I ask you where these prices are from.....?? NOT IN STOCK??

Even Richer Sounds,Amazon and even less so Sony Centres can't sell it that cheap for a new 2010 model.

The W5810 cost £729 and that was 2009's model,

Argos does the 40 inch EX 503u for £899
