Running in time

Anyone ever have anything sound worse after running in / burn in time? Reading reviews and forums it's always stated as a given that this will improve things. Suppose you don't want your new gear to change at all? Not going through this myself, just curious has anyone suffered poor results after running in?

Rather a case of bad/distorted sound after getting acclimatized to it
