I have just found a very positive review on these and they do seem to match my requirements including price and size for a speaker upgrade.

However i have never seen anyone in the forum mention them - so if anyone has heard them could they give a recommendation (pairing with Arcam Amp / CD). They are probably in competition with Spendor SA1 which i have auditioned already.

Thanks

They are superb speakers - incredibly lively and exciting to listen to. That could make them a good match for milder Arcam kit, and i'd predict a more up-and-at-'em sound than with the Spendors in tow.

All depends on the sound you're looking for, plus the nature of your room (wooden floors vs carpet etc).

The Epos M5 speakers i have are pretty lively so i would be looking for something in the same mould but that i would get an upgrade from with the Arcams.

My room is pretty well furnished and carpeted so i think lively is good - i may give them a demo - is there anything else similar - Dali Monitor 1 perhaps ?

The Ruarks are incredibly musical speakers - the only time I heard them was when I had to put on some music for "valentines day" at school - Luther Vandross was put on them (thanks to an Arcam Alpha 9 and 9 CD player) and the sound managed to fill a pretty large mock-Tudor wood finished room with ease.

The Sabres manage to make you forget about the equipment and just listen to the music - similar to that achieved by Wharfedales and old B&W speakers. And I wouldn't say the treble is at all lively on Arcam equipment (and I hate lively treble!) more natural infact! I would say your equipment and room is just perfect for them!

I've listened to these with the Cyrus 8VS2 and CD8X and it was very, very nice.

Huh?ÿ

Ruark are rarely put a foot wrong, fantasticly build and high grade drives/crossover are use in all their range. I never own the Sabre but Talisman will always have a place in my heart.

BTW, what is on Hughes's avatar? Yamaha?

Wharfedale E70s...best speakers ever made IMO!

Oh, and Octo...yes I still go to school, and yes I have a quality taste in music (Luther Vandross - 'aint much better than that!

I realise you still go to school Hughes (if anything this gives me even more of a respect for your level of knowledge), no what I meant was the situation, sounds like my idea of a nightmare...

I hope i'm not being naughty by posting a link to a foreign site here, but there's a review of them Here.

Huh?ÿ

Double huh?

Did he have one foot on each speaker? I hope he didn't scratch them.

Oh dear, I get it now! My literary skills are not at their optimum during the holidays!

-Oh, and I think the poor guy's dead now...so I doubt he caused that much damage to them!

They are very, very nice speakers but you can only appreciate them in a big room and with a smooth amplifier (Arcam is just about right or valves are better)...but sing they do!

Yep, I agree with your claim. As an owner of the Wharfedale E20's (safely tucked away in the attic) they still stand toe-to-toe with some of the best mid-range modern speakers. ME!! biased? Never. . . .
