Im torn between the two really, which will sound better? The Roth or one of the Fatman itubes? I cant demo the Roth as i cant find a dealer in Glasgow. The price isnt really a concern, more the sound quality. And Would monitor audio br2 speakers be a good match with either?

Hi I have had two Roth mc4s and had a problem with distortion with some music I have recorded in lossless it did sound good but I would try before you buy also I ended up changeing it for a fatman itube 182 it sound alot better with no issues of distortion and can be had for £450 rrp was £ 700 hope this helps
Hi there, just had a listen to the Fatman itube 182 in sevenoaks and theyre selling it to me for 450, along with monitor audio br2's for 180, so thanks for the tip! I notice it doesnt have a headphone socket and since im really only using this setup to replace the speakers on my pc, this is fairly important to me! The chap in sevenoaks suggested a headphone preamp but as far as im aware they use lineouts for the sound and the fatman has none? Any ideas how i can hook up my headphones to the amp?
The headphone amp goes between the CD player, or tuner or whatever and the amp so you don't need the amp on when listening on headphones. The amp must have line in and line out as well as a headphone socket. There are a couple on E Bay but they are cheap ones - Edifier and also a valve headphone amp all at around £30 (from Hong Kong - they work ok but are not brilliant though are reasonable for headphones - depending on the quality of your headphones) though you can spend a lot more of course. You can also use a double out plug from the Cd player or tuner with one lead going to the normal amp and the other going to the headphone amp.
Also you can get a speaker switch box with headphone out though how the Fatman will like running without speakers switched on and the output lust through the headphones I am not sure.

How are you connecting your PC to the amp? I assume your PC is the source. If that is the case would a DAC with a headphone amp be of use? So you would have PC to DAC with USB or other digital cable and then DAC to Fatman with phonos and headphones out of the DAC.
