I thought of a pet hate today. I think it's quite funny, any how it's metric over imperial.
I'm sure most of us on here remember when we were forced in Britain to go metric whether we liked it or not.
Well ....today me and Simon, my Brother were listening to Led Zeppelin.
The song "A Whole Lot of Love" began, we listened.
Some of you here will remember the line that goes; "I'm gonna give you every inch of my love..." etc.
Simon, says to me; "Hmmm, this song wouldn't really work too well in metric, would it..."
I laughed and agreed. No it wouldn't work at all well in metric would it.
Rather a perceptive piece of English humour, thought I.....

The rest of it is stolen from:

Ok, similar but hardly stolen. It's a different riff, different chord progression.
Stolen, is rather a strong term.
And what's that got to do with "Every inch of my love.." which was what the laugh was about.
Maybe your a metric man, huh?

It's almost word for word!
Steve Marriott was actually first choice for Jimmy Page, then it was Terry Reid, then Percy. However, without Plant there wouldn't have been Bonham, so I wouldn't have an avatar!

The thing is, my comment was merely a joke about "Every inch of my love" not working very well in metric. It was meant to be an amusing comment, not a discussion about the relative merits of Zeppelin versus Small faces.
I thought Simon's comment was funny, and that's what I wanted to convey, just for a laugh.
Maybe you didn't find it funny.....fair enough.
But you did miss the point of my post and it makes you seem a little humourless or maybe you were being cantankerous for whatever reason.
At the end of the day, for me Robert Plant, sings that song, with Led Zeppelin, with more conviction, more style and having researched the issue there were no hard feelings between the two bands. The original song concept came from neither Led Zeppelin or the Small Faces anyway.
Maybe you could lighten up a bit.

The "consent or pay" model being adopted by more and more websites.

It needs to be banned

Meanwhile I will just continue to blacklist any websites that indulge in this practice. Their loss not mine as far as I'm concerned
I hate that. I keep saying how is that legal. Yeah they can do one as far as I'm concerned.

Can someone enlighten me about this. I haven't encountered it, I think, and don't understand what's being discussed here.
Excuse me, if it makes me appear like a brain dead idiot.

Cookies.

Basically if your privacy minded and don't want ad networks tracking your every move on the internet so they can serve you personalised ads, not to mention the other many nefarious ways in which they are used, then you block and reject them.

However, many websites have now started to ask you to pay them if you try to reject cookies, essentially holding your privacy and personal data to ransom.

Thanks for that Dave. Bleedin' hell! I hadn't come across it. In future, I'll reject all cookies and if they want money......they can swivel.

My Epson printer. Trying some non-OEM cartridges, and when you put them in the printer cautions you against using ones that you haven't bought from them. It then asks again when you want to print something, and takes far longer to print. I don't buy that this is because of the cartridge - I strongly suspect the printer is set up to behave sulkily if you go elsewhere!

That's always been the case GEG, same with Canon printers.
They want to preserve their eco system.

Third parties use recycled cartridge cases to save costs. It's the tiny chipset on the cartridge that tells the printer, it's been used before. Hence, those messages you keep getting. Some third party providers do clever stuff and operate seamlessly.

If I'm doing photo's, better not to go with third parties, if you want quality print but also, you can't be certain if the cheaper ink contains chemicals that harm the printer.
More importantly, if your inkjet printer is still under the manufacturer's warranty, using other compatible ink cartridges is likely to invalidate your warranty.

Living where I do, a few miles west of Taunton, I'm only around 10 minutes drive from Choice Stationary and their cartridges work perfectly in my Canon printer.
No doubt most of these third party ink supplies work absolutely fine.

My older out of warranty Canon printer, to be sold eventually. Worked mostly OK with third party inkjets. I usually listen to comments from other customers, if the health check is good, I'll go ahead and order.

The only proviso, I won't risk using third party supplies on my new printer, don't want to invalidate the warranty.

Apologies for me going slightly off the subject but I only wish they can make colour laser printers to the same quality of the finest inkjets, apart from Dye-sublimation printing which are costly, inkjets provide the best results for photography. The realism and resolution is the highest compared to other alternatives.

I have a Brother mono laser I use exclusively for documents and office work. Inkjets quality for printing black and white documents are inferior to lasers and very slow, they're a bit rubbish for productivity and costs much higher than toner replacements and less value.
I use third party toners, they work fine! 🙂

Took my last printer to the local tip about ten years ago.. Wouldn't have one in the house these days....

On the very seldom occasion I need to print something (and i genuinely can't recall the last time that was) I'd go to the local community space/library or do it at work

Yes, that’s what I have worked out, do I actually need a printer anymore…

...I've never owned a printer - other than a Petite typewriter and a date stamp as kids toys.
I'm only just on my first ever computer - a 'nothing special' Lenovo laptop that cost around £270 and has lasted 10 years so far - with no problems.......💥

But this is room 101, so I'd like to put in everyone known as an 'influencer' and all those people stupid enough to be influenced.
