Well, quite topical as it has sadly happened on these same pages very recently - one of my longest standing pet hates (have been speaking out against / calling out bullies since I was as young as six) is gratuitous rudeness, patronising comments and personal attacks on forums and social media. Especially when you are discussing "trivial" matters. We all have stresses and stressors, challenges and frustrations; taking them out on other people is quite sad...

Despite being a bit too hippy for my liking, the saying "If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything" is quite apt.

Ah yes, and middle/outside lane hoggers. If the lane to your left is free and/or you are not overtaking another vehicle, move over. 😆

Given Learners are given no practical training on Motorways and the truly awful and dangerous "smart" motorways often contradict the highway code by telling you to stay in lane is it really any wonder lane discipline is an issue?

Life's capriciousness. Dear old friend (who despite COPD had kept himself fit and active despite nudging 80) fell down the stairs and broke his neck this morning. Not conscious, and relatives have been told that the worst is a distinct possibility. His wife is due to retire in the next few weeks too.
I'll nominate this again. Dad rang me on Sunday complaining of pains in his leg - had been fine on weds when I did his shopping. Got up to his find his leg swollen and discoloured - in hospital within 90 mins, and no longer with us as of 11 p.m. last night.

A lot of processing to do but he had dementia and many physical issues, and had changed of late to be saying that he just wanted to go to sleep and not wake up again. If he'd have come out of hospital, he'd have been in an even worse state, so it's a kindness in disguise.

We've never been a religious family, but I'd be delighted to be wrong if it meant that he and my mum were now reunited.

Really sorry to hear this, my sincere condolences to you sir. Lost my parents 20 and 25 years ago, and lost a dear brother in law last year to the final stages of vascular dementia. It wasn't a sad funeral in his case as we all believed he was in a far better place after suffering the horrid effects of this ruddy thief of a disease over the last 7 years.
I'm not particularly religious either, but do live in hope and have a faith that we all go to a far better place and rest in peace once our days are over.

My sympathy to you too.
It's good that you can recognise that kindness in disguise of which you spoke 👍
I'm currently awaiting the funeral of my Auntie - still no news of a date a month on from her death...I hear things are taking longer in many cases (it recently took a whole 2 months from death to cremation for another family member).

I'm probably about as religious as you and Doug (perhaps it's our scientific / realistic type brains) but we'll have to wait and see if the end really is the end 🤔

Best wishes to you and your family.

The ridiculously OTT reporting of the Heathrow power cut. I could understand if there was major disaster there but, it’s just a large number of people inconvenienced and, a substation in need of repair. There has been no suggestion, so far, of any terrorist action so, not even that excuse for the excessive reporting.

Anything that, in itself, can disable one of the busiest airports in the world is bound to attract attention.
I find it difficult to believe their "back up" isn't able to power the whole airport
And they want another runway??

'Loyalty' schemes. I'm a member of a few, and they all seem to have taken turns for the worse in their terms.

Shell's money off seems scarcely worth having, and expires far more quickly than it used to.

Tesco's clubcard points used to arrive by post (then email), now you have to check for them periodically, convert points into vouchers, make an electronic copy to get the reference numbers and then apply them individually. They used to just sit there waiting for you to check out and tick the boxes. Making it a pain to access your 'rewards' says a lot, I think. Hadn't been arsed to look at this for ages, and it amounted to £85 quid. So just let me have it without the faff. I know you'd rather I forgot about it and you didn't have to give me money off...
